House backs 2.6 percent pay raise for civilian federal employees

Democrats called it a gesture of appreciation after the 35-day partial government shutdown. Before the shutdown, Senate appropriators agreed on a 1.9 percent raise, but a spokesman for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said no decisions have been announced on when or how that chamber might take up the issue.
